Private Residence, Belgravia, London (Recirculation System)

This was a very unusual project as ordinarily we wouldn't undertake domestic projects, however when a domestic project calls for a commercial kitchen set-up with a recirculation system, then this was definitely one for us!

Located in the heart of Belgravia, London, we were tasked with designing a kitchen ventilation system for a gorgeous 19th century Grade II listed townhouse, which wasn't the simplest of tasks.

Due to planning restrictions, the whole of the kitchen ventilation system had to be contained within the building, meaning we couldn't extract air or introduce fresh air in from the outside.  Surely an impossible task? Not for us it wasn't!

Given that the cookline in the kitchen consisted of all electric catering equipment, this was the perfect scenario for us to use a Reflow recirculation unit to sit alongside our kitchen ventilation canopy. However just to add to the design restrictions, we were unable to situate the Reflow unit in the same area as our canopy. I know. WTF?!! Don't worry; as the famous saying goes, "where there's a kitchen ventilation system, there's a way"! 😉

For this project, we installed a 2150x1250mm kitchen ventilation canopy complete with stainless steel wall cladding over an open top oven range and deep fat fryer in the ground floor kitchen, then a run of 8m of fire rated extract ductwork was installed down into the basement area to fix onto the Reflow recirculation unit which was horizontally mounted in yes, you've guessed it, a redundant swimming pool!

The 12m of fresh air ductwork sat alongside the extract ductwork and was run back up to our kitchen ventilation canopy to then introduce the filtered air back through the perforated panels in our input plenum.

Given that the air that filtered through the Reflow unit will be hot, it was necessary for an M&E contractor to install air conditioning in the kitchen to ensure a comfortable working environment.

To complement the Reflow recirculation system, we designed our own bespoke control unit to incorporate the fan controls as well as "dirty filter" indicators so the kitchen staff can easily see when the Reflow unit requires servicing. This was installed by our electrical engineer during the set up and commissioning of the system.

Once again, an excellent job all round, from design to manufacture to installation. Recirculation systems are becoming more and more necessary nowadays due to building constraints, especially in locations such as:

  • Pop-up & Concession Kitchens
  • Stadium & Arena Hospitality Suites
  • Basement and Underground Locations
  • Listed Buildings

Trivent Ltd was established in 1980 and in that time we have designed, manufactured and installed commercial kitchen ventilation systems for many tricky locations, so if you require a system more specialised than others can offer, contact us and we'll offer a solution!
